  • Apple to open its first ever floating retail store

  • Located at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore

  • 517th store globally, 3rd store in SE (pun intended) Asia

  • To include the same safety measures as the other Singapore Apple stores and occupancy will be limited.

The 2 trillion dollar fruit company has yet again awed its fans by announcing the opening of a new flagship store at Singapore’s waterfront. It is a giant spherical floating building that adds to Singapore’s already beautiful skyline. This announcement comes amid a round of rumors and speculations that Apple was posed to build a new store on the bay.

The new dome-like design is unlike any other flagship store by Apple. It is right by the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel. The store joins just 2 other stores in Singapore. One being the famous Jewel Store at Singapore’s Changi Airport and the other at Singapore’s Orchard Road. Both stores are beautifully in line with Apple’s simplistic design choices for retail locations around the world.

Although the exterior is out in the open, the interior is yet to be seen but is sure to match the simple yet elegant design boasted by other Apple stores. Also, this is Apple’s 517th store globally and its 3rd store in Southeast Asia.

Upon announcing the new location, Apple’s web page for the store claimed that the company will "soon open the doors” of the new retail store and that it  “will be at the heart of creativity, a place [they’ve] made for you to capture your ideas and passions. It will be a space for you to explore, connect and create something new. We can't wait to see where your imagination takes you.”

MacRumors.com shared the official teaser for the new store in which Apple officially announced the name of the floating store, “Apple Marina Bay Sands.” Furthermore, as 9to5Mac.com reports, Apple’s opening at Marina Bay Sands will include the same safety measures found at Singapore’s other Apple Stores. Apple will limit store occupancy to ensure that opening day stays safe.

Conclusion:

Not only has Apple continued to innovate in their products, but also has greatly innovated retail store design- something other tech companies have turned a cold shoulder to. Apple stores are a mark of success and achievement in the modern age of e-commerce. The company has excelled at this method of marketing and selling that other companies have constantly lacked at.

Just in June of this year, Microsoft announced the closure of almost all its brick and mortar stores. A stark contrast to the thriving business brought in by the elegant and futuristic looking Apple stores. Apple has seemed to have garnered much more enthusiasm and hype about their new store than any other store and has surely become a warning for other OEMs to buckle-up for a ride they thought was over.
