Google Pixel 5, Design, Processor and Price Revealed
Google Pixel 5 will launch near October 2020
Pixel 5 will cost around $799
The processor will be a mid-tier Snapdragon 765G
While the Pixel 5 isn’t expected until October 2020, in typical Google fashion, most of its details have been leaked. This year, Google isn’t gunning to compete with ultra high end smartphones crossing the $1,000 mark, opting for a more mid-tier flagship.
The Google Pixel 5 is expected to use a Snapdragon 765G. Compatible with screens up to 120 Hz and 64 MP photo sensors, its mainly intended for mid-range phones. The Pixel 5 will finally be able to film in 4K at 60 FPS according to unreleased code in the Google Camera App. However, it is rumored that Google may decide to upgrade to the Snapdragon 768G after it was announced on May 11th.
Specifications
Snapdragon 765G (Potentially 768G)
128GB storage
6 GB Ram
5.7 inch 2280*1080 display
3 Cameras (Standard, Telephoto, Wide Angle)
According to leaked information about the processor, the Pixel 5 will be the first 5G Smartphone from Google. The Snapdragon 765G is a very capable chip-set, offering native 5G support and being the second highest-end processor in Qualcomm's 2020 lineup. This would suggest that Google isn't designing the Pixel 5 to be a typical "flagship" Android phone to compete with ultra high end phones like the Samsung S20 Ultra and iPhone 11 Pro. Google wants to create a mid-tier Smartphone.
The Pixel 5’s other specs while adequate aren’t impressive in 2020. The 5.7 inch 442 PPI screen could be 120Hz if Google chooses the Snapdragon 768G, but, the phone will most likely stick to 90Hz like last year. The 6GB of ram will be fast on Stock Android but not to the level of high end flagships. 128GB storage isn’t competitive either but should be ample with Google Photos offering free unlimited photo storage.
The Pixel 4 fell short when it came to battery life so enthusiasts are hoping for at-least a 10% increase to set the Pixel 5 just above a 3000 mAh battery.
DESIGN
According to leaks, from the front, the Pixel 5 looks like a Pixel 4 with a few refinements. The top bezel looks a little slimmer and more refined than the large bezel on the Pixel 4, which is used to hold the phone’s face-scanning sensors and Soli radar chip. This design would hint that Google may have found a way to shrink its sensors and chip down or bringing back the fingerprint scanner, making the bezel much less “screen-eating” than the previous pixel. The edges of the glass on the screen look to be slightly curved, though the display itself looks to be flat.
This new design could make the Pixel 5 nicer to hold than its predecessor but also avoid false touch detection but not having the touchscreen right on the edges. On the edges, it looks like business as usual for the Pixel 5. You'll find smooth curved sides and a colorful power button on the right-hand side, as well as a USB-C port on the phone's bottom edge. The triple-cameras will be put in a U-shaped camera bump .
Price & Release Date
The Pixel 5 is expected to launch sometime in October 2020 unless Corona-virus slowdowns cause enough manufacturing delays. Devices will ship in the week following for the same $799 price as last year, though, some reports have speculated that the price could be as high as $849-$899.
Previous to the 5 launching we are expecting the 4A, a successor to the best selling Pixel 3A from last year. The new budget model is expected to be similar to the Pixel 5 but have a slightly downgraded screen, camera and performance.
This isn’t the end to everything we will learn about Google new flagship. If this year is anything like the last, we should have more leaks in the near future with Googles track record of letting big details slip. Its own executives are prone to making “accidental” tweets from unreleased devices and other devices in the lineup have had parts listed on eBay. Keep updated by following us on Twitter!
