Apple and Google have recently removed Fortnite from their App Store after the game tried to bypass the app/play stores 30% cut of in-app purchase profits. The latest update offered all players a 20% discount on its in-game currency V-buck, but, only if they paid Epic Games directly. The update gave players an option between paying more to process through Apple/Google or direct payment to Epic Games.
Although Fortnite is removed from play store it will still be available on Android devices. Google said that Android users can install and play Fortnite from the Epic Games app or other app stores like the Samsung Galaxy Store on Samsung devices. For Apple users, there are no such options available to play the game.
As a response to Googles ban, Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Google which states, "Epic does not seek monetary compensation from this court for victims of this injury. Similarly Epic does not seek a side deal or favorable treatment for Google." Instead, Epic seeks relief from the injunction that would fulfill Google's broken promise: an open, competitive Android system for all users and industry participants.
Epic Games has also launched a lawsuit against Apple to, in its words, "end Apple’s unfair and anti-competitive actions that Apple undertakes to unlawfully maintain its monopoly in two distinct, multibillion dollar markets. Meanwhile, Epic has released a protest video mocking Apple’s iconic “1984” ad and calling gaming fans to #FreeFortnite by supporting its fight against Apple.
