Gimbal-style camera announced on Vivo X50 Pro
The X50 series will also include the world’s thinnest 5G phone…
Vivo announced the long teased gimbal style camera, available on the pro model of its first 2020 flagship, the X50 series.
Using a 48MP primary sensor from Sony, the X50 Pro will be able to achieve far smoother video than its competitors. Its four additional sensors (portrait, telephoto, wide angle and color temperature) will also help the smartphone capture more clear night shots.
The lineup includes three phones: the Vivo X50, X50 Pro and X50 Pro+.
Here’s a rundown of what each has to offer…
Vivo X50:
Vivo’s cheapest X50 offering makes a name for itself as the thinnest 5G phone on the market at 7.49mm. It uses four-axis OIS instead of a gimbal-style camera and the same 13MP portrait, 8MP ultra-wide camera as the phones. In place of a periscope camera is a 5MP macro sensor. The phone packs a 4,200 mAh battery, Snapdragon 765 5G processor and comes in black, pink and blue. Its 1080p OLED display runs at 90Hz. Sales start on June 6th with the 128GB variant priced at $490 and the 256GB version at $550.
Vivo X50 Pro:
The “Professional” X50 flagship is the lineup’s only phone to boast Vivo’s gimbal-style camera. It also has a 5X periscope zoom lens and the same two portrait and ultra-wide lenses as the standard X50. The pro model uses a 90Hz 1080p OLED panel with a 4,315 mAh battery, and the same Snapdragon 765 5G chip in the standard X50. Color options will be dark and light blue. Starting on June 6th, the 128GB variant will cost $600 and the 256GB version, $660.
Vivo X50 Pro+:
Packing a Snapdragon 865 chipset, 120Hz display and slightly higher quality rear cameras, the X50 Pro+ is great for those wanting incredible power. While the Pro+ doesn’t share the gimbal-style camera, the 50MP Samsung sensor is able to deliver incredible quality along with the same additional cameras the other models use. The phone comes in Blue and Brown, packing the same 4,315 mAh as the normal pro. It’s available in a 128GB version for $700 and 256GB for $770.
Vivo’s three new phones each have their defining features but all variants come in the exact same 6.56” screen size with the Pro+ model upping the refresh rate to 120Hz. The X50 series is a huge step in the right direction as the market moves forward to integrate traditional camera components into a more compact package. A new age of smartphone cameras has arrived!
Hudson Labno:
Interestingly, all the phones are the exact same size.
OnePlus is known for being a company that creates phones to “kill” big brand name flagships. And, the OnePlus 9T would be no different! But, with the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro already being great phones, some tech enthusiasts are questioning the need for a phone in the middle.
