Apple Glass to launch in 2021 at $499, support prescription lenses.
After years of speculation and concepts Jon Prosser has leaked more details about Apple’s AR glasses. They will start at $499 and support prescription lenses
Apple Glass will be announced by end of the year or early 2021
Apple Glass will cost $499
All data will be processed on the connected iPhone
For years, rumors have swirled that Apple is secretly working on AR Glasses. Now, trusted Apple leaker Jon Prosser has given us the latest glimpse into the development of Apple Glass.
Starting at $499 the AR-enabled glasses will support prescription lenses. Prosser claims the reveal will be a “One More Thing” announcement in Q4 of 2020 or Q1 2021 during the iPhone 12 launch event. The exact date is unclear as Apple wants to have a large, physical media presence which may be difficult given regulations.
Apple’s Glasses will use LiDAR technology instead of a camera which may cause privacy concerns. The iPhone 12 Pro is expected to and the new iPad Pro is already using the same LiDAR technology. A venture further into this type of radar will enable the company to use data from other LiDAR enabled Apple devices in development of the glasses.
Prototypes are currently framed on plastic but Apple may choose to use a more premium material as we find it unlikely that they won’t fixate on quality. The glasses aren’t expected to be a crazy, bulky, holographic experience similar to Microsoft’s Holo Lens: they will maintain a relatively slim profile. The interface, code-named “Starboard” will display information that can be controlled by hand gestures and only visible to the person wearing the glasses. The eyewear will use wireless charging and not support sunglass lenses.
Apple Glasses aren’t standalone but an accessory as processing has been moved to the iPhone. Their goal is to deliver smart eyewear that extends Apple’s accessory ecosystem in a slim, premium package. They won’t be the outlandish experience many hoped for but Apple’s move to integrate AR glasses into their ecosystem will extend our connection with technology to a more personal, wearable device.

OnePlus is known for being a company that creates phones to “kill” big brand name flagships. And, the OnePlus 9T would be no different! But, with the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro already being great phones, some tech enthusiasts are questioning the need for a phone in the middle.
