Google Pixel 4a: set for August 3rd announcement
Pixel 4a gets FCC certification
July 3rs announcement, October 22 release date
Pixel 4a will cost $349-399
The Pixel 4A has passed through FCC certification hinting at a fast-approaching launch. Pixel fans have waited in anticipation after the Pixel 3A was discontinued and Google passed its typical phone update timeline. Now, we expect a August 3rd announcement and October 22nd launch for Google’s mid-range smartphone according to trusted leaker Jon Prosser.
Likely launching alongside the Pixel 5, the 4a may introduce a precedent of announcing budget and flagship phones together. This could help streamline the development process as their budget phone is more easily designed to be a downgrade of the flagship device. Additionally, loose rumors claim the phone could be named “5a” to simplify the naming scheme.
Design & Price
The Pixel 4a will be reminiscent of its older brother but ditch glass as the budget device is housed in a black, plastic body. The USB-C port is seated beside a headphone jack.
According to 9to5Google’s Stephen Hal,l this plastic powerhouse should cost $349 while other leaks put the price at $399. It’s difficult to say which price-point is accurate but either way the $50 difference pins the phone in the same budget market.

Conclusion
The Pixel 4a has a huge chance to perform at its expected $350 price. All eyes will be on the Pixel as consumers are less willing to purchase phones over $1,000 during the pandemic. The 4a could become a major success as its typical raving camera reviews, Stock Android experience, and good specs come together in an all-around great package. If its able to succeed when pitted against the iPhone SE and upcoming OnePlus Nord, the market may have a new budget victor.
OnePlus is known for being a company that creates phones to “kill” big brand name flagships. And, the OnePlus 9T would be no different! But, with the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro already being great phones, some tech enthusiasts are questioning the need for a phone in the middle.
